STUDIO 2B SESSION MUSICIANS
The finest talent, to make
your song come to life.
Dave Skinner
DAVE SKINNER is an extraordinary polymath with many talents, not the least of which is his fast-growing second career as a songwriter, movie soundtrack composer, professional live & studio session musician, and sonic logo designer.
Dave and our Creative Director, Drew Matthews, reconnected a few years back when Dave came in to talk about launching his music career. It was a beautifully fortuitous event as friendship was formed and several projects later, Dave is The Matthews Group’s Musician & Composer in-residence. We couldn’t be happier as he is an exceptional talent.
When Dave is not writing for his clients, performing, or flying around the country on the film festival and conference circuit, he is busy writing sonic logos for The Matthews Group, and creating original music and audio soundtracks for videos.
CLIENTS LOVE DAVE’S AFFABLE, UPBEAT STYLE and ability to take the complication out of sound design and bring it into an approachable reach in building audio brand experiences. A state-of-the-art sound studio was recently constructed where you will find Dave composing, recording talent, and further educating himself in the latest and greatest of sound design and production.

Robert Herridge, a fifth generation Texan, started his musical journey at age 14 when he started learning guitar from his buddies since his parents couldn’t afford music lessons. His love for music got him started in rock and roll bands and eventually country music. At age 18, with the encouragement of his father, he started learning fiddle by ear by hanging around Texas fiddlers and having his aunts and uncles hum old tunes to him. Robert eventually landed a fiddler’s job in the house band at Gilley’s Club in Pasadena, Texas. With that experience Robert had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Michael Martin Murphy, Merle Haggard, Boxcar Willie, Crystal Gayle, Hank Thompson, Roy Clark, Johnny Rodriguez and many more entertainers. Robert’s musical career allowed him to participate in huge concerts, TV shows, radio shows, and movies. The Urban Cowboy movie featured his performance and arrangement of Cotton Eyed Joe. He was also a movie consultant for Gene Hackman. Robert was bandleader at Gilley’s Club and toured with Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee. He recorded 2 albums, 3 singles and had a number one hit with the instrumental Cajun Fiddle. Robert has been a session player and fiddle and guitar teacher and also plays accordion, mandolin, and harmonica. His oldest son, Jonathan is also a fiddler as dad started him at age 3. Robert has a publishing company and has composed numerous original fiddle and instrumental tunes. Robert has formal training in classical violin and also studied music theory and jazz in college. Robert is the current band leader and music coordinator for Santa’s Wonderland. He has taken up accordion and has played German and Czech music for the past 10 years and tours with the German Oktoberfest band Das Ist Lustig. Robert is a past state president of the Texas German Society and also a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International and the San Antonio Accordion Association. He has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Houston. Robert, and his wife, Marie live in the western part of Austin Country outside of Bellville, Texas on 17 acres.

Joey McGee
Listening to Joey McGee’s The Acoustic Highway: Love, Loss, and Other Stories, it’s hard not to notice the striking quality of his voice: It’s warm. Pure. Honest. His tender baritone draws us in and centers our focus as he examines aspects of humanity’s most elemental force: Desire.
McGee understands what we all crave is connection — whether physical, emotional, spiritual or intellectual. On this album, his sixth, he explores the roads we travel to find those connections, the pain we endure when they end, and the hope that allows us to keep searching for new ones.
The album was designed to evoke the kind of connection that occurs in places that, under the right circumstances, feel downright holy — the intimate listening rooms where songwriters bare their souls to people who can’t imagine being anywhere else in those moments.
“Some of my most engaging experiences as a performer have been in settings where it’s just me, my guitar and the audience,” McGee says. “I wanted to capture that magic and intimacy in this recording.”
Several of these tracks appeared on earlier McGee albums, but this time, he’s distilled them down to their simplest — and most powerful — acoustic soul-folk form, recording them live in the studio, in single takes.
“I had Patty Griffin’s cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Stolen Car’ in mind when I recorded,” McGee says. “There’s minimal accompaniment, giving it a somber power and purity.”
You can hear those qualities in his delivery of Guy Clark’s “The Cape” and Ben Harper’s “Diamonds on the Inside.” He also covers Townes Van Zandt and Lyle Lovett, building on Americana tradition by paying respect to those who came before.
McGee, a self-defined “Southern Creole-Cajun” with recently discovered Scotch-Irish DNA, comes from a place where respect for musical forebears is practically ingrained: New Orleans, a city so imbued with soul and spirituality, even its football team is named for All Saints Day (though McGee, now living in Bryan, Texas, previously lived in Pittsburgh — and still swears his gridiron allegiance to the Steelers).
“I started this project just before the pandemic,” McGee explains. “With all that we went through at that time — the fear, isolation, fractions and anger — releasing this album feels good, and it feels timely. As a society, we were called to pull back the layers of our living and examine them a bit closer. We’re still dealing with the fallout, but hopefully, we are better for it.”
And if not, maybe we can get there — if we keep reminding ourselves how much connections matter, and how much stronger we are when we make them. - Lynne Margolis
